Background

Chesapeake Bay Snacks, LLC (CBS) is a full-service food manufacturer and co-packer based in Baltimore, MD. Operating from a 17,000 square foot warehouse, we are regulated by the Maryland Department of Health and the FDA, and we are reviewed annually by a third-party audit firm. We are members of The Association of Contract Packagers and Manufacturers (CPA) and the Private Label Manufacturers Association.

We co-manufacture and/or co-pack liquid products for companies of all sizes and for a broad array of production run sizes. We operate with a tolling fee system, but we also offer cost-plus based purchasing services and dropshipping services.

Production Equipment

Our production equipment includes:

  • Eight head gravity filler line with a heat sealer and a round bottle labeler.  This line is focused on low to medium viscosity liquids in round bottles between 16 fl oz and one gallon.

  • Four head piston filler line with an auto capper, a heat sealer, and a front/back/round labeler.  Coming on-line in July 2024, this line will focus on low to high viscosity liquids in flat, oval, and round bottles between 4 fl. oz and 16 fl. oz.

  • Five production kettles, including:

- 10-gallon steam jacketed kettle with scrape agitator

- 50-gallon steam jacketed kettle with impeller

- 110-gallon kettle with impeller

- 300-gallon steam jacketed kettle with impeller

- 500-gallon steam jacketed kettle with scrape agitator

Capabilities

Our production capabilities include:

  • “Acid foods,” including syrups, sauces, oils, and similar condiments

  • Cold filled products for products through our bottling line. (We can selectively handle hot filled product if filling half gallon or gallon containers directly from our tanks.)

  • Shelf stable, non-refrigerated products

  • Plastic or glass packaging

We are currently not able to accommodate products with the following characteristics:

  • “Acidified” foods or “low acid” foods

  • Foods requiring refrigeration upon completion

  • Foods requiring Kosher, organic, or other specialized designations

 Prior to commencing work, we require clients to have the following in-place:

  • Scaled and developed recipe(s)

  • HACCP plan

  • Production flow chart
    If you don’t currently have these in-place, we can refer you to an external advisor.

Pricing

Our fees include:

  • Tolling Fees: We charge tolling fees based on the number of laborers assigned to the job plus company overhead. Depending on the job, we staff one to four workers on the assignment. We have a $1000 minimum fee per job. Fees are quoted on a case by case basis.

  • Purchasing Fees: If desired by the client, CBS can purchase the required raw materials for the client for a fee.
